I’ve been experimenting with mixed media on raw birch panels, aiming for a stronger graphic impact. I usually start by painting everything black and pulling the image out with highlights, but this time I flipped the process and worked backwards. Is it the “correct” way? Maybe. For me, it was about showing the integrity of the birch and letting it be showcased rather than covered up with black paint. This painting forced me to work more with shadow and subtle highlights instead of highlighting everything.
